Tom Baker

Tom Baker who portrayed the fourth Doctor from 1974 to 1981 is widely known as the fan favorite Doctor of all-time. He was born Thomas Stewart Baker January 20, 1934 in Scotland Road, Liverpool. Tom left school at 15 to become a Roman Catholic monk, and remained in the monastic life for six years, leaving after he lost his faith. He then served in the Royal Army Medical Corps from 1955 until 1957. That was also when he took up acting as a hobby.

Tom was part of Laurence Oliver's National Theatre company from the mid 60s through the early 70s, and had his first big break in the 1971 film "Nicolas and Alexandra" with the role of Rasputin. In 1974, Baker took on the role of the Doctor from Jon Pertwee. Baker was working on a construction site at the time. He quickly made the part his own. As the Doctor, his eccentric style of dress and speech (particulary his trademark scarf and love for jelly bellies) made him an immediatly recongnisable figure.

Tom played the Doctor for seven consecutive seasons, making him the longest-serving actor in the role on-screen. Tom Baker is often regarded as the most popular of the Doctors. In polls conducted by "Doctor Who Magazine", Baker has lost the "Best Doctor" catagory only three times: Once to Sylvester McCoy in 1990, and twice to David Tennant in 2006 and 2009.

Tom Baker has returned to his role as the fourth Doctor with "Big Finish Productions". He is slated for at least six audio stories also staring his former companion Leela (Louise Jameson). The first is to be released in January 2012. If you would like an autographed 8x10 of Tom Baker (and what true Doctor Who fan wouldn't), he has commisioned legendary fantasy photographer Oliver McNeil for new photos. These amazing art prints can be purchased at http://www.legend-photography.com and they are personally signed by Tom Baker, and can even be personalized as well.

River As Never Before

I wasn't real impressed with River Song (Alex Kingston) the first time I seen her on the show, but she grew on me, and she seemed to become prettier, and sexier each time she appeared. Now I am going to give all you guys out there a little thrill if you are a River fan. Here are a few pics of her like you will never see her on Doctor Who, but you know you want to.

Karen Gillan Talks Exit

The Doctor's latest companion Amy Pond is reaching her end on the TARDIS. Karen Gillan who has taken on the role for two years has vowed that she will not return to the show once she leaves.

Previous companions Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, and Sarah Jane Smith have all made return appearances after their time traveling days came to an end. But Gillan has said that she will not be doing the same when the time comes for her to leave the show.

"Death would be an option. I don't want Amy to pop up again every so often, because for me it would take away from the big, emotional goodbye." She told The Brilliant Book Of Doctor Who 2012. "Once she's gone, she's gone. I want people to remember the Amy Pond era as a good one." She added.

Gillan admitted that she is uncertain of her future on the show: "I don't really know what's going on, to be honest... the time is going to come when Amy and Rory have to leave. It's inevitable... I will welcome the new companion with open arms. But I don't know what kind of companion he'd have next."

For the most of us we will be sad to see Amy and Rory go, it aways is. But the show must go on, and the TARDIS must continue to fly. Personally there has only been one companion I was ready to see left behind, and that was Donna Noble. She was a bit to loud for me, but I for one will miss Rory and Amy.

Doctor Who to the Big Screen?

That's right Who fans, David Yates the director of "Harry Potter" is working to bring Doctor Who to the movies.

BBC America tweeted, "A Doctor Who feature film remains in development w/BBC Worldwide Productions in LA. As of yet no script, cast or production crew is in place."

Yates is currently on the hunt for writers. The idea is not to spin a story off the current reincarnation, but to take a new approach to the story. Regardless of the flexibility of the tale, Yates is set on keeping it's British roots, even if he ends up with American writers for the script.

"We want a British sensibility, but having said that, Steve Kloves wrote the 'Potter' films and captured that sensibility perfectly, so we are looking at American writers too." Yates told Variety.

Yates also promised to take his time with execution. "We're going to spend two to three years to get it right." Yates said. "It needs quite a radical transformation to take into the bigger arena."

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm excited! Do you have any ideas for the cast, crew, or writers? Lets hear them.

A Christmas Carol

This is my favorite Doctor Who Christmas Special to date. Katherine Jenkins takes on the role of Abigail Pettigrew, the pretty collateral for her families loan. Locked away - frozen in time until the Doctor and young Kazran release her. Every year on Christmas Eve the three sail off on magical adventures and soon Kazran and Abigail are in love. But Abigail holds a secret and a special gift. Her secret is that she was dieing when she was taken as security for the loan. By the time she tells Kazran of her mortality, Abigail is down to her last day.
Her gift? Well that is her voice. Her beautiful singing resonates through the ice crystals over her planet, and ultimately she is able to clear the path of the ship carrying Amy and Rory down to the safety of the planet. So in her final hours of life, Abigail saves the lives of thousands, and gets to spend one final evening with the love of her life, soaring through the night sky like Santa himself.

This is a wonderful Christmas Special that everyone will enjoy, not just Doctor Who fans.
And here is a little peek at what is hiding under Abigail's thick white gown she wears through out the special. There is definitely a lot of woman under that gown, don't you think?

Award Success!!!

Matt Smith won the Best Science Fiction Actor at the Spike Awards, while Karen Gillan took Best Actress for her role as the leggy Amy Pond, and Doctor Who won Best Family Drama at the 2011 TV Choice Awards. Doctor Who also won Best Dramatic Presentation at the Hugo Awards this year for The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang.
There was another Doctor Who related winner at the TV Choice Awards this year, the Tenth Doctor, David Tennant was named Best Actor for his role on BBC One's Single Father.
Congratulations to all.

Welcome to the TARDIS NEWS

I just wanted to say a few words to welcome all my new readers, and to let everyone know what this blog is about. So first let me say welcome everyone... Now, what is TARDIS NEWS? Well that can be explained pretty simply. TARDIS NEWS is everything that is Doctor Who. I will be discussing the episodes (and specials) as they come, maybe even some spoilers, and behind the scenes activity, along with some cool photos. Of course as all good Doctor Who fans are aware the season has come to an end, but we still have the Christmas special coming up, and I will do what I can to keep you informed of what ever I can find out about the special and the new season. I will also cover Doctor Who related topics, and shows. Such as Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, which sadly has had it's final run. But that doesn't mean it will not be mentioned from time to time. Lastly, a little about me. As some of you may know I am a writer/artist/photographer, more known for my writing. My last novel "RAGE" can be purchased from my website www.wordsofrage.com there is also a free preview of the book as well as some short stories, and my first novel "Solitude and Circumstance". I am currently working on my next book (World of the Dead - working title), this blog and my review blog which is also on blogger One Man's Reviews. OMR is a movie/TV review blog, mostly horror, supernatural, and science fiction. Feel free to check it out as well. I would really like to do some interesting things on this blog, new and creative things. So if you have any ideas please feel free to let me know. Comment as much as you like, I love to hear from my readers, their thoughts, ideas, and opinions are important to me.

Let me end this introduction blog on a good note, or should I say photos. Here are some spicy pics of the two most popular Doctor Who companions of the new series.  You'll never see them like this on the show. Hope you enjoy them.
Yep that's right Billy Piper (Rose) above, and Karen Gillan (Amy) at right. Now I see why the Doctor kept these two around so long.
